AZULE GATHERINGS

From the very beginning, Azule has established a tradition of inviting local artists to show their work. Early on, there being no facilities specifically designed for the purpose, shows or presentations were taking place in many different ways and formats.
Now that Azule has a space for showing, namely the so-called basement - although it is a wide open space with a lot of light, a high ceiling, a real stage and lots of storage - we have designed a "Azule Gatherings" series guideline which reflects Azule's mission statement:
The "Azule Gatherings" series does not limit itself to two-dimensional work. It encourages all artistic forms to be presented; painting, photographie, crafts, sculpture, architecture, installation work, performance, poetry, music ... the list remains open to reflect Azule's understanding that the expression of one's art is among the best ways to promote communication and the sense of neighborhood and community Azule supports.
We have a simple way of putting it: "Where there is art there is community - Where there is community there is art". Art, in all its forms, is an indelible trace of culture. It makes history through the production of artefacts, cherished by the generations to come. Azule intends to participate in the making of history, local mostly but understood as an integral part of the global history which, for years, seems to have carried us in directions we may not have chosen. Azule wants to be an agent of history. A participant in the changes needed to insure a future for our part of the world.
We encourage all artists to present works and enter into a dialogue with the membership, not for the purpose of self-promotion as much as, again, for that of the arts as tools for social change.

Here are guidelines:
- There will be no selection based on the aesthetic of the work to be presented, although the board reserves the right to judge whether the work fits within Azule's misssion's statement.
- Azule will not charge a fee for showing, but if artist sells work, 20% of the sale will go to Azule.
- Azule will not provide technical help for the mounting or taking down of the show, except on a voluntary basis. It is the intention of Azule, however, to improve on the facilities, as far as hanging devices, props, tables, projection equipment and such.
- Artists who want an opening or a closing will provide all supplies necessary and will leave the space clean and in good order.
- Time limitations for each show will be discussed on a show-to-show basis.
- Artists will be asked to read, understand and sign the following disclaimer:

WORKS SHOWN AT AZULE, IN THE "AZULE GATHERINGS" SERIES, DO NOT REPRESENT AN AESTHETIC CHOICE ON THE PART OF AZULE. THEY REFLECT THE CONSTANT DESIRE OF AZULE TO PROMOTE THE GOALS INCLUDED IN AZULE'S MISSION STATEMENT:

AZULE : PROVIDING AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY MEET, WORK AND LEARN TOGETHER THROUGH THE ARTS IN THEIR MANY FORMS.
